SRISHTI EXPO 2016

I was was part of the wonderful team that curated the Srishti expo of 2016. Co-designing and erected the display structures along with space design.

We had a small but energetic team of young designers headed over by Janak Mistry, Mary Jacob and Manoj. I personally had a lot of fun with this one, going above and beyond to make the expo a hit, which to gods grace it was. Lots of good memories and a great experience.

Display Structures

Paper was the chosen medium for the expo and I had to get creative with the form factors. Janak Mistry from Srishti was my mentor in the process and together we came up with the design for the display structures.

Variety of structures

We had to devise 8 levels of display structures. The triangulars for displaying the student works. The cardboard stools for displaying the props and products. The flat stands for additional information about the expo. The hanging banners for Srishti related info. The tall standing structure to display the various entities of Srishti ecosystem and their information, The small stands to display the expo info like direction, placement, markings etc.

The triangulars

Paper was chosen for a multiple of reasons but mainly due to its low cost of production. We had to make multiple structures in very less time and the down time to get those designs manufactured were also a reason we had gone with corrugated sheets of paper. The only problem was the sturdily of the structures which I had to work on till we got the perfect shape and size. Had to get technical with this one.

Space design

We had a very dedicated team of young designers that took care of the space design. Care was given to make sure there was ample space between the structures. We had done multiple visits to the venue prior to the exhibition to get an idea of the area and the planning was done accordingly.

A place to showcase

Around 220 graduating student's work had to be displayed with other notable work from all part of the Srishti family. It was a huge task at hand to accommodate all that but the team was able to pull it off. The metal structures were fabricated by Dovetail Furniture, Bangalore and the paper designs manufactured by Honecore Packaging Bangalore.

Hanging Pillars

The pillars were the toughest ones to execute due to the cable. Someone had to climb up to the top of the false ceiling to tie the rope to the support structures. Due to the problem of low light at the top and high infestation of spiderwebs the task was not taken up by the helpers that we hired which then ultimately was handed over to me. My designs, my responsibilities. But it was fun to see them dangle by the wire in the end. The leaning towers of Srishti.

Ceremony time

The expo was inaugurated by the Founder of Srishti Geetha Narayan with all our peers and colleagues present to flag off the ceremony.

Guests and honors

The event held at the Kings Court of Bangalore’s Palace Grounds was inaugurated by Shri R V Deshpande, Karnataka’s Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development who lauded the efforts of Srishti in lending a boost to art and creativity through technology.
