Concept Designs
Throughout the years I had worked on some concepts that are yet to be developed. The inspiration came from either a client, a paint point I faced or part of a bigger project.
Split Flask
One of the main distraction for a runner would be handling the water bottle while he does his activities. Split flask solves this problem quite simply with the help of a magnetic latch belt.
Run forest, run...
The bottle will be attached to the belt that is tied around his/her waist. The orientation of the bottle can also be changes depending on the user. It can either be to the sides, front or even back.
Latch design considerations
The latch had to be strong enough to hold the 0.5 kg weight of a filled half liter bottle and also needs to be able to hold it in position when the water sways from one side to another when he user runs. Magnets were used inside and also the shape of the latch was designed to keep it in place without much movement.
Parts study
Also a great accessory to have if you love sharing as it splits up into multiple containers. Easy to clean too.
Design Inspiration
Along with functionality the flask also had to be built like a tank, or in this case like a rugby player. The design was inspired from the American rugby player design.
Quite a looker...
Hope to take this design forward in the coming years.
Mapachi
A multi functional couch that's made specially for the elderly.
Child seating at the top
The idea for Mapachi came into view when my grandmother was finding it difficult to seat my niece in her lap for a long time. This gave me an idea of giving her a seat right next to my grandma without causing much strain on her knees. The child seat will take shape by pulling the lever from the bottom and the seating support will slide from within the couch.
Small table top
I also observed that to write or read anything my grandma had to get up multiple times and use her writing table. So why not have a small table attached to the couch. Rotate the arm rest for the child upwards and the seating area becomes a table top.
Storage
A place to store all her favorite magazines, remote controller, pen etc.
Multicool - Space saving refrigerator
During my Masters I stayed in an small apartment with roommates and understood the value of space. This got me thinking of how versatile each appliance have to be. Meet Multicool. A multipurpose refrigeration unit.
Easy to move design
A trolley design was introduced to help with moving the unit around. A handle as well as a side and bottom wheels help with with handling it. Do make sure to clear the fridge before moving though
Multi door opening
Being small also meant it had to have bigger doors for easy accessibility. This also helps in storing large vessels. The issue would be sealing off the doors flush with the body with multiple moving doors and also manufacturing difficulties.
Side Trays
Everyone of us use the top of our refrigerator as storage. This got me thinking of having one right at the side.
Foot door opener
A foot door opener was attached as I used to open the door every time with my foot if both my hands were busy with something.
Wine Pourer
A mechanical wine pourer that brings a certain bit of class to your very mini bar.
Prototyping
A working prototype was made with mdf and laser cut gear wheels.
Detachable parts
All the panels and parts in the device were detachable.
Design
I had a lot of fun designing this contraption. It was a learning opportunity for me, a test in flexing my design brain a bit.
In action
People gathered and friends happy to see the wine. The machine was put to test and it came up top trumps.
Terracotta water dispenser
A water dispensing unit that was made entirely out of terracotta.
Research and Design
The layers of the dispenser was divided into two sections. One for structural strength made of Kaolinite clay for natural cooling. The inner bottoms walls are lined with Bentonite clay that absorbs the toxic substances in water as well as reduce the acidic nature of water.
In action
A prototype was made to test my design out. A few renders to showcase the design in action.
Design inspiration
The body of the dispenser was modelled in line with the shape of a drop of water.
